The International Commission on Illumination
- also known as the CIE from its French title, the Commission
Internationale de l´Eclairage - is an independent, non-profit organization
that is devoted to worldwide cooperation and the exchange of information
on all matters relating to the science and art of light and lighting,
colour and vision, photobiology and image technology.
Since its inception in 1913, CIE has been accepted as representing
the best authority and as such is recognized by ISO as an international
standardization body. Hungary - except for long pause - has been
a member of CIE since its foundation.
The technical activities of CIE are carried out under the responsibility
of the Divisions each covering one sector of light and lighting.
The 7 divisions are the following:
1. Vision and colour
2. Measurement of Light and Radiation
3. Interior Environment and Lighting Design
4. Lighting and Signalling for Transport
5. Exterior Lighting and Other Applications
6. Photobiology and Photochemistry
7. Not Allocated
8. Image Technology
Until 2009 the membership of Hungary in CIE was supported by the
Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 2010 this role was overtaken by
the Lighting Society of Hungary.
Technical committees are open to anyone who would like to participate
in working out specific topics. If you would like to join, kindly
send you application to Dr. András Poppe (firstname.lastname@example.org),
chair of the CIE National Commette.
